An "Eerie" Toastmaster meeting

11/2/2018

WORD OF THE DAY: "EERIE"

USED IN A SENTENCE: "It was a dark and eerie, Tuesday night when the ghost was spotted in the boardroom of the YMCA." (it was probably just me looking pale before my speech).

SPEAKING TIP: Vary your hand gestures to help illustrate your talking points.

It's difficult to concentrate on anything before you go up for a speech.

Tuesday was one of those days. I, along with fellow member Terri, both had speeches this past Tuesday and we were quite relieved to see that it was a small crowd consisting of all members and one guest. So small that I made the announcement to remove two of our five tables, they're big tables! Kinda.

Wilson, aka Mr. Quantum Fantasy (which I still don't get), lead us as the Toastmaster of the evening, giving us these cool Hawaiian lays (which I still don't get either).

But...it's Halloween?
Ah, but Mr. Quantum Fantasy had a trick up his sleeve. He began by asking us what kind of dream we had. Then lead us in a group conversation about how we can divide up one million dollars. THEN said something the along the lines of, you are forever trapped in the eternal abyss...okay I need to write this stuff down.

It was some kind of eerie remark. (man, I'm on a roll).

 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Speeches consisted of Terri's awesome [2nd] presentation (second speech) on her passion about Museums. And Jon's (my) strange speech/performance with Erratic Assassin, my asshole of an alter-ego.

Then our very own Linda lead us into a table topics session with a story telling format that kept everyone on their toes! A haunted house about...(I forgot since it was a few days ago, but I know that Alex was Lorna's scared Knight in "shining armor", HA!).

Fun meeting this past Tuesday.

Shout out to our special guest, Dee!

10 reasons why you should visit a MUSEUM!

Our very own public relations officer, Terri Li, gave us the run down of her specialty, museums. She presented to us the history, facts, and spoke about some of our own modern day museums.

To be perfectly honest, when I think of a museum, I often times think of boring old artwork on a wall for people to stare at. Generally, I'm more amazing at the price than I am at the artwork itself.

However, what I learned from Terri and even during table topics session is that each piece of artwork truly does have a story behind it. That story brings out the worth of what people would normally see as just different colors put together.

In general, museums hold a sentimental value that involves a sense of history, a story behind it all that we often times take for granted given how we're always looking for a quick fix of endorphins.

I realized that museums are indeed something to be appreciated by us. I'm looking forward to the next one I get to visit. Take a step back, and learn something new!

What makes a good website?

I like to think of it as an acronym - EAT (Easy, Access to, Information)

It doesn't always need to look amazing, it doesn't need to have fancy gadgets.
